Techiman & Kintampo
Bono East Region · Waterfalls · Sacred groves · Markets
Ghana's crossroads between north and south: waterfalls at Kintampo, the Boabeng-Fiema monkeys and Techiman's huge market.
About Techiman & Kintampo
Techiman has one of the biggest food markets in West Africa and sits at the heart of the old Bono kingdom. Nearby, the Tano sacred grove at Tanoboase is said to be where Bono civilisation began, and the Boabeng-Fiema sanctuary protects monkeys the local people consider sacred.
Further north on the road to Tamale are the Kintampo and Fuller waterfalls, perfect breaks on a long journey.
Travel tips
Many travellers pass through on the Kumasi to Tamale road. Stopping a night lets you see the sanctuary and the falls without rushing.
