About Accra
Accra is loud, warm and full of energy. Start in Jamestown, one of the oldest parts of the city, with its lighthouse, fishing harbour and street art. Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to understand Ghana's road to independence, then lose yourself in Makola Market. In the evening, head to Osu for restaurants and bars, or to Labadi beach at weekends for music and food.
Accra is also the base for day trips to the Shai Hills, the Aburi Botanical Gardens and the coast west towards Kokrobite.
Travel tips
Traffic is heavy at rush hour, so plan cross-city journeys for mid-morning or early afternoon. December is the busiest and most expensive month, with concerts, weddings and family reunions: book drivers and hotels early.
