Elephant in the Mole Game reserve in Savannah Region of Ghana

Mole & the Savannah Region

Savannah Region · Wildlife · Savannah · Culture

Savannah wildlife at Mole National Park, the ancient Larabanga mosque and the culture of Ghana's north, reached via Tamale.

About Mole & the Savannah Region

Mole National Park is Ghana's largest wildlife reserve and one of the most affordable safaris in Africa. Walking safaris with armed rangers often get you close to elephants, especially in the dry season, along with antelope, baboons and warthogs. Nearby Larabanga has one of the oldest mosques in West Africa, built in the Sudano-Sahelian style. Further north are the Paga crocodile ponds near the Burkina Faso border.

Travel tips

Fly from Accra to Tamale (about an hour), then drive around three hours to Mole. The dry season, roughly November to April, is the best time for seeing elephants.
