Ghana has more than 500 kilometres of coastline. Here are the beaches we recommend most, and who they suit.
Near Accra
- Labadi: the liveliest, with music, food and horse rides at weekends. Some sections charge a small entry fee.
- Kokrobite: relaxed and creative, with drumming schools and beach bars. Waves can be rough.
East: Ada Foah
Where the Volta meets the sea. Boat trips, sandbanks and calmer river water make it good for families.
Central coast
- Anomabo: a quiet beach beside Fort William, on the way to Cape Coast.
- Elmina: beach resorts close to the castle and the fishing harbour.
Western coast
- Busua: a sheltered bay and the best place in Ghana to learn to surf.
- Cape Three Points: Ghana's southernmost tip, remote and very quiet.
Staying safe in the sea
Atlantic currents can be strong. Swim where local people swim, avoid swimming alone, and ask at your hotel about conditions that day.
