About Fort Amsterdam (Abandze)
Fort Amsterdam stands on a hill above the village of Abandze, near Kormantse. Built by the English and later held by the Dutch, it was part of the trade in gold and enslaved people along this coast. It is smaller and quieter than the big castles, and an easy stop on the road west.
